Postdoc positions available

last modified Aug 21, 2018 02:25 PM
We are inviting applications for two Postdoc positions in the Many-Body Quantum Dynamics group.

We invite applications for two postdoctoral research associates to work on experimental studies of many-body quantum dynamics using ultracold atomic gases and optical lattices. The work will focus on the non-equilibrium dynamics of quantum gases in novel optical lattices and other novel geometries and configurations.

The two posts require extensive experience in experimental quantum optics or atomic physics. Specific experience with ultracold atoms, optical lattices or other synthetic many-body systems is advantageous. Knowledge of the theory of many-body physics and condensed matter physics is highly desirable, experience in numerical modelling and data analysis is helpful.

If successful, the role holders will design and carry out investigations, both theoretical and experimental. In addition, they will communicate research findings through publications, talks or lectures, contribute to the infrastructure of the research group, assist with the training of students, and promote the public understanding of science.

Appointment at research associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience) before the actual starting date. Successful candidates who have submitted their thesis but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a research assistant and upon the award of PhD will be amended to Research Associate. The research assistant salary (grade 5) falls within the range £25,728 - £29,799. The research associate (grade 7) salary falls within the range £31,604 - £38,833.

The closing date for applications is 15th August 2018, and interviews are planned for August/September. The proposed starting date for this position is the 1st November 2018, but can be negotiated.
